My Garden Helper

Thursday, May 12th, 2016

Last week I mentioned that we had a little visitor to our garden. It was a small lizard.

Sometimes we forget that there is a good side to having the little creepy, slithering visitors.

Our garden has a small pond, but the fish there eat the mosquito eggs. There are still a large number of mosquitos because our neighbour’s yard is a very traditional Japanese garden and a good place for those baby mosquitos to grow up, and then come visit me!!

We have a lot of birds who visit our garden, too, and they help take care of the bugs some.

Anyway, this little fellow is pretty common in our area and likes to eat grasshoppers who like to eat the leaves of my wife’s favourite flowers.

Garden season is back

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

The Golden Week Holiday is just about done, and it is usually the start of warm (or at least warmer) weather. This means our garden is really starting to bloom. I did see a small lizard there among the flowers this morning, but the mosquitoes are also already biting!

We decided to try to grow a few tomatoes this year. We tried this several years ago, but between the blistering sun and the birds we didn’t get any to eat. The birds enjoyed themselves a lot though ๐Ÿ˜‰

This time we only have a small pot with some cherry tomatoes – not reallyย  garden material, but I’m having fun with them and hope we can get a few to eat.

There were also some new blooms this morning. Below you’ll see a couple of quick shots of the tomatoes, sitting by the fish pond, and the new flowers.

Could be a good year for our grapes, too.

Anyway, it’s back to class for Friday!

Just one job category

Some people think I am not a nice person. I can get angry and have little patience. True.

However, I’m not a person who is angry about nothing or even easily.

If you make a mistake, I may not be happy about it. Things happen. I get that. Really! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can live with people making mistakes. Even big mistakes. If I think the person is doing their best or just made a mistake because they didn’t know better.

The problem for me comes when things are not right, there are mess ups, mistakes, simply because someone does not take the time, or care enough, to do something right.

If that makes me a bad person, well, okay, I can accept that.

Do your work. Do it the best you can. If it’s wrong and you can fix it, fix it. I respect that even.

If that is not the case, don’t expect me to just accept that. I won’t. I can’t.

Great example of this I found in my mailbox. Someone spent money, resources, and time, and probably planned to reap some benefit from this flyer. Really? You had one job, and this is the result.

I’m putting this next to my son’s junior high school basketball tournament t-shirt from last year that says 2th Annual Tournament in very large letters at the top.

Spring time 2016 is here!

Thursday, April 14th, 2016

Well, it’s that time again, spring, and new classes.

I have had a little time to get out and enjoy the cherry blossoms and other trees and flowers blooming. I live close to a large park where we can walk and see a beautiful lake and trees and grass and flowers.

I’m looking forward to another good semester.

Here’s a photo I took at the park.

Winter semester is just about finished

Monday, February 1st, 2016

We’re wrapping things up for another great year of classes. I hope everyone has a great break and gets refreshed and ready to start another semester soon.

It’s break time, so relax, some, but don’t overdo it!

I had to do a little clean up on my indoor fish bowl that sits on the landing of the stairwell. I have been advised to not feed them when it’s less than 10 degrees C, but they keep eating, and keep growing.

Here’s the waiting station they play in while I’m doing the dirty work ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also, there’s no net. I’ve been doing this so long with them they let me catch them pretty easily and usually only move a little in my hand or just lay there waiting to be dropped into the bucket or back into their bowl.
