Cicada – what Japanese call ‘semi’ – hatching

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Woke up this morning to the sound of the cidadas singing, or as I like to call it, making annoying sounds. This has been a strange summer for our garden when it comes to the time schedule of things.

This seems a bit early for me, as did the ending of the tree dust that falls for a month and makes it nearly impossible to be outside without having that dust in your hair, your coffee cup, or other drink, or in your pockets and down the collar of your shirt.

So, the ‘singing’ started.

Walked out this afternoon and found this little guy springing forth. Looks a little like Predator at times, but it was pretty cool to watch.

We didn’t take photos of every stage, sorry, but there are enough to cover most of his progress.

Last class of Spring Semester at Chukyo

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

So, today we had our last class for the spring semester at Chukyo University at the Yagoto Campus.

I have several great groups this year, and I’m having a good time working with them all.

Sadly, there are a couple of students who won’t be returning for the fall semester because they will be traveling to Canada for a semester of studying abroad.

Today before we finished up we decided to take a couple of pictures and I promised to post them here for everyone to see.

Wow, is my head shiny! I swear I have more hair than that. Not much, but still… sheeesh 😉

Getting Ready for Summer Break

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

So, it is now officially hot, already.

We still have several weeks of class left. That’s not so good with the heat and the emphasis in Japan on trying to save electricity due to the shortage caused by the earthquake and aftermath.

I finally gave up and lost the dress shirt, tie, and jacket. I just can’t take the heat any more. Last week I was so hot and had a headache all day through every class, so this week I gave in and switched to a pullover polo shirt.

Everyone is shocked. 😉 I always wear a tie and jacket (although the jacket goes first thing when I hit the classroom).

Anyway, summer break is only a few weeks away, so hang in there everybody!
