Another October, another birthday for Ahn

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013

Yep, yesterday was Ahn’s birthday again. It seems like it comes around once a year… whether I’m expecting it or not. 😉

This year was more hectic than most. It seems like classes restarting and other work were more crazy than ever. I’m usually pretty good about getting things taken care of for birthdays, and Christmas, at our house, but I was pretty behind this time.

I had already messed up because I knew last week that I was getting close to running out of time, but thought I had Monday to take care of things.

Of course it’s a day of work and prep time for me usually, but this Monday was a holiday. That means it’s not a holiday for me because both of the boys stay home as well. That’s not bad, but it does mess up my schedule.

Anyway, I had a great time Monday with them, but knew I was getting pretty pressed.

I have class all day Tuesday, so that didn’t leave me much time at all…

Then I’m getting set for another full day of classes on Wednesday when lucky for me a typhoon comes. Yeah!! 😉

Classes not canceled at the other schools, but morning classes are shut down at the university.

Time for us to bake a cake, and then for me to run to get the present he’d been asking for.

Shweew… thanks for that weather break 😉

Anyway, I promised to post a couple of pictures of the cake, so here they are:

Lost turtle, found turtle, and two new fish

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

So, the saga has ended, and luckily ended with a happy tilt.

We had an escape from our medium security turtle enclosure, but the fugitive was reacquired before it was too late.

While we were busy looking for him, and worrying that we might not find him, or that we would find him or more precisely his dried out shell, we kept hoping he would be found. Luckily he was, and he’s back in his now near maximum security enclosure.

When one of our friends, Byron, heard the story, he shared his woeful tale of losing and not finding his turtle until it was too late.

Didn’t bring a lot of hope.

His daughter, Ayumi, thought she would help us out be bringing us a couple of their baby gold fish to assist in getting us over the loss.

We found the turtle, and in fact we’re ahead now with 2 more fish 😉

We have several fairly large gold fish outside in our small pond in the garden, but we also have some smaller fish, 4 of them, in a large bowl that sits on the middle landing of the stairwell. Those 4 were the best candidates for getting new roommates, so that’s where they are.

The new fish spent a day or so getting acclimated, and now are swimming along and moving about just like the others, even at feeding time.

That’s good news! 😉

Here are a couple of pictures where maybe you can see them:
